UK-based oil major BP has announced a simplified organisational structure and some changes to its top-level management team.

In the new structure, BP will have three business areas supported by trading and shipping, namely low carbon energy and gas, production and operations, and products and customers, which covers the Castrol lubricant brand.

The company currently has an organisation for corporates, regions and solutions, and this is to be integrated into the three businesses and other functions.

Five functions will support BP’s businesses, namely technology; finance; people and culture; sustainability, strategy and ventures; and legal. BP says these changes will simplify reporting lines and reduce duplication across business units.

The CEO of BP, Murray Auchincloss, said that as he stated when he took up the job:

“…BP’s destination from IOC to IEC is unchanged—and we need to deliver as a simpler, more focused and higher value company. These changes will help us do just that, reducing complexity within BP, allowing our team to focus on delivering our priorities and growing the value of BP.”

Together with the new structure, the team of top-level executives will be reduced to 10. Anja Isabel Dotzenrath, who currently leads the gas and low carbon energy business, is retiring, and will be replaced by the former head of regions, corporates and solutions, William Lin.

Leigh-Ann Russell, meanwhile, is leaving as head of the technology function for an opportunity outside the organisation. Emeka Emembolu, who has been the company’s chief of staff for the past two years, will succeeds her.
