Leading provider of industrial and automotive lubricants Valvoline Global has announced that it is making an equity investment in HAERTOL Chemie GmbH, a leading producer of automotive coolant solutions in Europe.

Valvoline has a long history of innovation, having started up in 1866 before going on to introduce the first branded motor oil in the world. In a press release, the company said it was focusing on aiding mobility’s future by coming up with innovative new technologies for the automotive sector. It also said its new, closer relationship with HAERTOL would generate additional value for its customers by enhancing its expertise in this area. According to the press release:

“HAERTOL is a leading European producer and supplier of premium antifreeze products and automotive services. The company possesses over 60 years of experience in developing and producing chemical products including Frostox antifreeze, heat transfer fluids, specialized products for automotive, power generation and other applications with sales across four continents.”

The two companies had already entered in a partnership for international distribution and licensing in 2018. This has allowed Valvoline to distribute the HAERTOL FROSTOX HT-12 premium coolant in Asia Pacific and North America. HT-12 coolants were first used by Volkswagen and BMW in 2018 to give their vehicles long-lasting protection for 250,000 km, or five years. The aftermarket demand for H12 products is expected to grow over the coming years, especially as HAERTOL FROSTOX®HT-12 can also be used in many older vehicles produced by Volkswagen and BMW.
