TotalEnergies has purchased West Burton Energía , which owns and operates a gas-fired power station in Nottinghamshire, por 450 millones de libras.
La central West Burton B se puso en funcionamiento en 2013 y es una de las centrales eléctricas más avanzadas del Reino Unido. Tiene una producción total de 1,3 GW procedente de tres turbinas de gas de ciclo combinado (CCGT) y abastece a alrededor de 1,8 millones de hogares en el Reino Unido. En 2018 se incorporó a la planta un sistema de almacenamiento en baterías con una capacidad de 49 MW.
The acquisition of flexible power generation capacity complements the renewable power generation that TotalEnergies has in the UK by enabling it to mitigate the intermittency and supply a stable stream of electricity to its customers. TotalEnergies, which makes the Total lubricant and metalworking range, currently has 1.1 GW of renewable generation with a further 4.5 GW in the works. To support this, the company has estimated it needs 700 MW in flexible power generation from gas, so it plans to sell half of the assets it has recently required.
TotalEnergies’ president for power and gas, Stéphane Michel, expressed his delight at welcoming the team at West Burton B, adding:
"Esta adquisición contribuye a nuestra estrategia integrada en el Reino Unido, que combina capacidad de generación renovable y flexible. Complementa nuestro parque eólico marino Seagreen de 1,1 GW y nos permite acelerar el desarrollo de nuestras actividades de Integrated Power en generación, comercialización y comercialización de energía en este mercado".
Añadió que el acuerdo también ayudaría directamente a alcanzar el objetivo de la empresa de un 12% de ROACE en esta área de negocio.
