International chemical company Verdant Specialty Solutions recently acquired the Lubrizol Corporation’s Texas-based Elmendorf site.

While exact terms have not yet been disclosed, the purchase included the renowned additive maker’s product portfolio associated with the site, its research and development (R&D) lab, pilot-scale facilities and cutting-edge application testing capabilities.

Owned by Berkshire Hathaway, Lubrizol is a global chemical company providing additives for fuels, engine oil, medical devices and industrial lubricants. It is the parent company of multiple specialist lubricant brands like CPI Fluid Engineering, Paratherm, Icematic, Solest and Emkarate that produce solutions like heat transfer fluid (HTF), air compressor oil, refrigeration compressor oil and gas compressor oil, among others.

Commenting on the new acquisition, Verdant stated that it significantly strengthened its current gas and oil production chemicals offering, upgrading its present portfolio with corrosion inhibitors, scale inhibitors and HS (hydrogen sulfide) scavengers, specialised chemicals that extract or neutralise highly flammable, and corrosive and toxic hydrogen sulphide gas during industrial processes.

The new assets will now be integrated into the company’s Energy Services platform. Additionally, Verdant aims to keep key technical capabilities and R&D infrastructure at the Texas site to support next-generation and existing product development.

Like Lubrizol, Verdant Specialty Solutions is a successful global chemical company. However, it specialises in chemicals and surfactants for personal care, industrial, home and hygiene markets. As well as holding sites in the US, it also manufactures in the UK and Europe. Its chemicals for cleaning and degreasing products are formulated using betaines and oxides and emphasise dependability, sustainability and safety.
