L'entreprise publique malaisienne d'énergie et de lubrifiants Petronas a annoncé la livraison de trois nouveaux navires économes en énergie pour le transport de gaz naturel liquéfié (GNL) en provenance d'Amérique du Nord.
The announcement comes in the run up to the expected start-up of LNG Canada, in which Petronas has a 25% interest alongside other global energy giants like Shell.
Cette installation d’exportation située à Kitimat, en Colombie-Britannique, bénéficiera d’un port libre de glace et ayant accès au gaz naturel à faible coût produit au Canada, lui permettant de fournir du GNL pour répondre à la demande énergétique mondiale.
Le GNL est devenu un élément important du mix énergétique du Royaume-Uni et de l’Europe au sens large après l’invasion de l’Ukraine par la Russie. L’usine, qui devrait être mise en service plus tard cette année, aura l’une des plus faibles intensités d’émissions de carbone au monde.
The three new vessels—which have been named Puteri Sejinjang, Puteri Mayang and Puteri Mahsuri—were built in Ulsan, South Korea at the shipyard of Hyundai Heavy Industries. Their addition doubles the number of LNG vessels that Petronas has dedicated to its operations out of North America. Each vessel can carry 174,000 cubic meters, and they are the biggest vessels in the company’s fleet.
Adnan Zainal Abidin, the chief operating officer of Petronas, said that LNG would be needed for the foreseeable future as a key element in the energy transition. He said the new LNG vessels demonstrated the company’s commitment to supplying its customers with this much-needed fuel in a reliable and cost-effective way.
