TotalEnergies has purchased West Burton Énergie , which owns and operates a gas-fired power station in Nottinghamshire, pour 450 millions de livres sterling.
La centrale de West Burton B a été mise en service en 2013 et est l'une des centrales électriques les plus avancées du Royaume-Uni. Il a une production totale de 1,3 GW provenant de trois turbines à gaz à cycle combiné (CCGT) et alimente environ 1,8 million de foyers au Royaume-Uni. En 2018, un système de stockage par batterie d’une capacité de 49 MW a été ajouté à la centrale.
The acquisition of flexible power generation capacity complements the renewable power generation that TotalEnergies has in the UK by enabling it to mitigate the intermittency and supply a stable stream of electricity to its customers. TotalEnergies, which makes the Total lubricant and metalworking range, currently has 1.1 GW of renewable generation with a further 4.5 GW in the works. To support this, the company has estimated it needs 700 MW in flexible power generation from gas, so it plans to sell half of the assets it has recently required.
TotalEnergies’ president for power and gas, Stéphane Michel, expressed his delight at welcoming the team at West Burton B, adding:
"Cette acquisition contribue à notre stratégie intégrée au Royaume-Uni, qui combine capacité de production renouvelable et flexible. Elle complète notre parc éolien offshore Seagreen de 1,1 GW et nous permet d'accélérer le développement de nos activités Integrated Power dans la production, le commerce et la commercialisation d'électricité sur ce marché."
Il a ajouté que l’accord contribuerait également directement à atteindre l’objectif de 12 % de ROACE de l’entreprise dans ce domaine d’activité.
