France-based TotalEnergies has launched season four of its video series called “The Roads to Carbon Neutral”.
The programme series, which is made in cooperation with CNBC Catalyst, conveys stories about how TotalEnergies’ employees are making progress on the ground in the transition towards a net-zero future.
The first episode goes to Montpellier, France, where the 03C control tower monitors TotalEnergies’ renewable assets in France and its overseas territories, with these comprising hydroelectric, solar and wind power facilities.
The tower is equipped with a digital platform developed by TotalEnergies’ Digital Factory, and this enables employees in the tower to monitor energy production in real time.
TotalEnergies, which also makes the Total coolant and metalworking products, also tasks these employees with monitoring the health of renewable assets and identifying any potential issues, so they can respond appropriately by either taking action remotely, or dispatching a team to work on site.
Amjad Deyine, who manages O3C Montpellier, said about the control tower’s role:
“O3C monitors around 650 renewable assets, including wind, solar and hydro. We are the first in line to spot when something happens, like a stop of production. If we are not able to remotely restart the production, then we send a local team on-site to restart it manually.”
She added that there had been a noticeable improvement in intervention responsiveness and increase in overall energy production, with the centre reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 26 tonnes last year.
The episode is now available to view on the TotalEnergies website.
