UK packaging manufacturer teams up with Kluber

Leading lubricant maker Kluber has worked with Transcend Packaging, a manufacturer of sustainable packaging, to make its production processes free from mineral oil saturated hydrocarbons (MOSH) and mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH).

MOSH and MOAH are considered contaminants in the production process, and while regulation is patchy, industry organisations have called for tighter standards for limiting the presence of these substances in food-related manufacturing processes. By absolutely eliminating mineral oil residue from its processes completely, Transcend’s products will already be compliant with any future regulation that could come into force in the UK or elsewhere in Europe. Transcend’s CEO, Lorenzo Angelucci, said about this:

“We know there is going to be tighter legislation focusing on consumer safety coming into force which will impact products used in the food service and FMCG industry. We can already see that happening with France’s ban on the use of mineral oils in packaging materials.”

He added that his company wished to proactively provide its customers with the choice of higher safety levels. To achieve this, Transcend switched to Kluberfood 4DC, which is a technical processing aid made completely from food-grade materials which are derived from sustainable vegetable origins and GMO- and allergen-free, so the product is also Kosher and Halal. Through efficient application and performance, it also helps reduce lubricant consumption.

Transcend is a leading producer of paper straws, which it supplies along with other sustainable packaging—such as cartons, moulded fibre lids, and cups—to well-known brands like Starbucks and McDonald’s.
