Energy firm TotalEnergies has announced that the Eldfisk North project has begun successfully producing oil.
The project will take place in the Norwegian portion of the North Sea in the Greater Ekofisk Area. TotalEnergies and ConocoPhillips hold the largest interests at around 40% and 35%, respectively, with smaller stakes also being held by Sval Energi AS, Vår Energi ASA and Petoro AS.
The project has been developed remarkably quickly and ahead of schedule after being approved by Norwegian authorities at the end of 2022. TotalEnergies, which also makes the Total metalworking range, says this has been made possible through the efficiency and collaboration across the various companies involved.
TotalEnergies’ senior vice president for exploration and production in Europe, Jean-Luc Guiziou, commented that the project exemplified how a project with a short cycle can be delivered ahead of schedule without compromising safety. He added:
“The Eldfisk North project is indeed unlocking additional resources while benefitting from the use of available capacities in the existing infrastructure in the Greater Ekofisk Area. With a low break-even and greenhouse gas emissions below 10 kg/boe, the Eldfisk North project fits nicely in TotalEnergies portfolio.”
