US-based oil major Chevron has announced that it will donate to three organisations supporting relief efforts after the floods in West and Central Texas.
To help displaced residents and emergency responders by ensuring volunteer equipment has access to fuel, $50,000 will be contributed to the Fuel Relief Fund. A further $100,000 will go to Team Rubicon to help it organise volunteers and evaluate the damage in affected areas, as well as get ready to remove the debris at scale. Finally, another $100,000 will be donated to the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country to aid local groups in their recovery, relief and rescue efforts.
In addition to the $250,000 donation, Chevron is making available up to another $250,000 by matching its employees’ personal contributions two to one.
The chief officer for corporate affairs at Chevron, Laura Lane, said the company had a track record of supporting the communities where it operates. She added:
“Our partnership with these outstanding organisations will help provide essential aid to those impacted by the catastrophic floods. We also extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to the volunteers and first responders who have worked tirelessly on the front lines of the relief efforts.”
In addition to being an integrated energy company, Chevron markets grease and lubricant products under the Texaco brand in the UK. Despite its global presence, Texas remains important to the company. It operates pipelines, a refinery, crude oil fields and other facilities in the state, and it also has its corporate headquarters there.
