A recent European specification has been approved for cleaner burning fuels to be used in diesel engines, including Shell GTL, one of the oil giant’s best products, along with Shell Tonna S3 M 68. This could assist in improving the quality of air throughout the United Kingdom.
Air quality is an issue of great concern throughout the United Kingdom, but is a particular issue in London, and the Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool areas, collectively known as the ‘Northern Powerhouse.’
London’s Oxford Street is one of Europe’s most polluted streets, and the main issues causing this to be the case are nitrous oxide commissions and particulate emissions. These pollutants can have a serious negative effect on the health of people who are exposed to them. For this reason, it is important that the impact of older machinery and commercial diesel automobiles, which are particularly susceptible to excessively high nitrous oxide and particle emissions, is minimised.
Nine years ago, Royal Dutch Shell proposed a new Europeaan standard on gas-to-liquid fuels, which it believed would help to minimise the impact of these kinds of emissions, by incentivising more people to use GTL fuels. The proposal was ratified recently, which means that the fuel can now be used.
Shell’s GTL fuel is synthetically produced from natural gas, and is much cleaner than many other fuels. Not only that, but it can be used by any diesel engine without it first having to be modified, so it can easily be used with older vehicles and machinery equipment. It is also nontoxic and biodegradable, making it a friendlier choice for the planet.
