The Brazilian operating arm of TotalEnergies, TotalEnergies EP Brasil, recently brought an offshore oil project online in the Santos Basin located 300 km off Brazil’s coast.

As operator, TotalEnergies has a 48 per cent interest in the endeavour, known as “Lapa South-West”. The site involves three wells that are connected to “Lapa”, a floating facility engineered for storage, production and offloading oil.

According to sources, the project will boost production from the Lapa oil field by 25,000 barrels a day to about 60,000 gross barrels a day. Operating as part of a consortium, TotalEnergies has partnered with Shell and Repsol, which hold a 27 per cent and 25 per cent interest in the project respectively.

President for exploration and production at TotalEnergies, Nicolas Terraz, commented that the start-up of the Lapa South-West project was an important milestone for the French energy major in Brazil. He called the South American nation a key growth country for Total, and said that the project leveraged the company’s existing capabilities in the region.

Terraz added that the project supplies low emission and low-cost oil production that serves TotalEnergies current strategy to grow its oil production capacity by 3 per cent annually until 2030.

With business interests in between 120 to 130 countries, TotalEnergies is an international player in a wide range of oil and gas activities from exploration to marketing. It also offers state-of-the-art lubrication solutions via Total Lubricants, which supplies refrigeration compressor oil, turbine oil, grease, hydraulic oil, metalworking cutting fluid and coolant, among many other products.
