Energy giant Shell has appointed its next executive vice president (EVP) for Shell Energy.
The new EVP will be Greg Joiner, who is currently the senior vice president (SVP) for Shell Energy Europe, according to an emailed statement seen by LNG Prime.
Shell Energy comprises the marketing of natural gas, power and renewable energy generation.
The appointment will take effect from April 1 following the decision of Steve Hill to leave the company. At the same time, David Wells and Tom Summers will become SVPs for Shell Energy Trading and LNG Trading, respectively, with them reporting directly to Andrew Smith, the EVP for Trading and Supply.
A Shell spokesperson said about the new team:
“This strong, hugely experienced team will continue to lead our portfolio of LNG, gas and power trading and marketing activities, and play an important role in delivering more value with less emissions.”
In addition to being a crude oil producer and a manufacturer of grease and lubricant products, Shell is a big player in the global market for liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is seen as a cleaner alternative to using fossil fuels like coal.
In 2023, 67.09 million tonnes of LNG was sold by Shell, slightly up on the previous year.
Shell currently estimates that the demand for LNG in the world will increase by 50% by 2040, as countries in South and South-East Asia turn to it to fuel their economies. China is also transitioning to using more gas instead of coal to reduce emissions.
